Deleted scenes at the end!
For the best story of Jesus ever made, I was disappointed because at least three major scenes were deleted at the end of the movie. First the decision of Judas; second the first part of the last supper; and third the scene at the last supper when Jesus identifies Judas as his betrayer. I have a copy of the original DVD of Jesus of Nazareth and have watched it several times over the past 20-30 years during Lent. That is how I know. If you've never seen this before, you won't know the difference. To me, "THE COMPLETE MINISERIES" as advertised is simply NOT TRUE. Buyers beware. If you've seen the original, you will probably be disappointed also.

BUY THIS MOVIE BUT NOT THIS VERSION
By James M. Koury
Do Not Buy This Version of this Great Movie as Very Important Scenes Were Cut
Its because I LOVE this portrayal of Jesus that I feel its impt to inform that there are major scenes that are being cut from the Blu Ray versions that shouldnt be missed.
Missing major parts of the original series including but not limited to:
- Judas lamentations of whether to turn in Jesus
Major scenes from the last supper including:
- Jesus telling Peter he will deny him 3 times
- Jesus telling Judas that he will betray Jesus and to "go and do what he needs to do"
These are not superfluous events but all critical to the story telling.
I have only found the complete edition only on Artisan's DVD catalog number 10166 seen here Jesus of Nazareth (Complete, Unedited 2 Disc Version)
The scenes are cut from this 40th Anniversary Edition in both DVD and Blu Ray by Shout studio as well as RTC's Spanish Blu ray version BD-0489.
The DVD series is 382 minutes so I thought I should just try to just find a blu ray version that was also 382 minutes, the problem is that they are mislabeled and all say that, so you unfortunately cant use running length to determine completeness of content. For a definitive explanation of the versions, search the web using this word "jcofnazareth" then look under the tab titled "VHS/DVD/BluRay Differences".

Shout Bluray: This is a CUT version!
Unfortunately this is not "the Complete Miniseries" as advertised. It misses 9 minutes of 2 scenes, one of which is very crucial to the story and one of the most basic scenes in the whole story of Jesus (Jesus telling Peter that he will deny Him, and also saying to his disciples that someone is gonna betray him). Shout has confirmed themselves that these 9 minutes are not included in their version, so unless they decide to fix it, the only alternative for people who want the really COMPLETE mini series is the Spanish and Australian Blurays.
